Tomorrow is our last day at the refuge. We have enjoyed another great season and have reluctantly been saying good bye to other fellow resident volunteers and friends. It's been a very busy and the refuge believes we may have a new attendance record.
One of the highlights for me was an alligator showing up to demonstrate how it eats prey right after my interpretive talk My talks do not usually include a live demonstration, so this was a pretty cool event. There was a dead bird on the bank and after I got the crowd to move back the alligator came out of the water and retrieved it.

The refuge also organized a very nice goodbye picnic for the Resident Volunteers at the causeway. It was a delicious pot luck and many of the staff and interns also attended. We really enjoyed it and everyone thought we needed to do this more often next winter.
