Visiting Bear Country – Black Hills

(Black Hills, South Dakota) 96 degrees, hot, humid with a slight breeze

Everyone is complaining about the heat…even the bears!  Although the weather is much hotter is many parts of the country, it is definitely above average for the Black Hills.

We decided to visit Bear Country a couple of days ago and really enjoyed our visit.  It is a drive thru park (windows closed) where you can view all kinds of wildlife.  The park was very clean and the animals seemed to be enjoying their habitat. It is a huge park expansive park.

There were lots and lots of bears! You can take your time and take as many pictures (through your closed windows) as you like.  I had a difficult time picking just a few to show you.  Please “bear” with me! Winking smile

After driving the loop there is area where you can get out and visit the gift shop, have a picnic, and/or walk through baby land.  Most of the animals were hiding due to the high heat but we saw a few cute ones.

We enjoyed our visit very much.  It is a little expensive ($16 per person) but we thought it was worth it. The best time to visit is in the morning or early evening.

Visiting With Friends In The Black Hills - South Dakota

(Black Hills, South Dakota) 77 degrees, sunny, blue skies

It was a pretty drive across Wyoming and we have now arrived to the splendor of the Black Hills.  We decided to come visit a couple of John's friends.  He was stationed at one time in Rapid City at Ellsworth Air Force Base and has kept in touch with Dale and his wife Eileen for many years.  John's daughter was also born at the base.   John has hiked many of these hills and says it feels like home to him.

We went to Mt. Rushmore to enjoy an evening ceremony.  It was  patriotic and very well done.  There were two fly overs and an enlistment ceremony for 72 soldiers - all branches of service.  There was also a very moving MIA/POW ceremony.

We are enjoying the scenery. lovely weather, and wild life.  We are especially grateful to all our friends who have reached out to us by blog, phone, and facebook.  We appreciate all your kind words and helpful advice.
